Inspiration In Seventh Grade
On Thursday, May 7, the seventh grade
was privileged to hear from fifteen year
old Asael Shabo. Asael Shabo was nine
years old when terrorists stormed his
home and murdered several of his family
members including his mother. Asael
survived this horrific attack by playing
dead. He lost his right leg in the
attack. Asael is a returning visitor to
SAR; he spoke to last year's seventh
grade and walked into the building using
crutches. Today, with the help of SAR
and Tikvot he now has a new prosthetic
leg.
Asael was brought to the States by
Tikvot. The organization worked with
Asael and got him involved in swimming,
sailing, rollerblading, water skiing,
and more. He is now a positive young man
who is helping other victims of terror
put their lives back together. He also
volunteers once a week at Magen Dovid
Adom.
The seventh grade was transfixed and
listened attentively to every word of
Asael's story. There was a short video
presentation and twenty minutes of
questions and answers. Following the
presentation, the students flocked
around Asael to ask more questions. Many
students were inspired by his story of
courage and bravery. More details of
Asael's accomplishments can be found on
the Tikvot website.
Hi, We are two students from SAR Academy. Today Asael Shabbo came to speak with us about his traumatic and extremely inspiring story. Thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to see the world from a completly different perspective, It showed us how to not take life for granted and appreciate what we have. We really want to get involved and be a part of this great program. If there is any way we can adopt a buddy and write letters to some of the kids, That would be great. Thank you so much,
Rachel Bernstein and Talia Petashnick
